healthy hydration green juice recipe

Want to know the secret weapon of health and beauty? Water. Yes, water!  Hydrate, get healthy skin, refresh, renew, cleanse, or make your hair shinier, you name it! When you're hydrated, you're balanced and we all crave balance in our lives. Work/life balance. A well-balanced diet. A balanced core. Checks and balances. Life is one big...balancing act. Okay, I'm done.

While this green smoothie will not solve the problems of daily life, it will be your first step to healthy hydration. Smoothies and juices help cleanse the junk and toxins from your body to keep that healthy balance. I usually try sneaking in a green smoothie each day to up my intake of fruits and veggies. Other times, I need to hit the reset button so I swap each meal with a juice or smoothie for a few days. While you can't rewind, you can hit the reset button on any aspect of your life, anytime you need a major overhaul. Everyone loves the 'before and after' shot of a makeover so why not play makeover master from time to time in your life. It worked when Cher Horowitz made Ty cool in Clueless and when Rachel Leigh Cook walked down the stairs in She's All That. We are all entitled to that moment, outside of the ridiculousness of the good ol' rom-com world (though I still love watching those guilty pleasures!). I recently hit the reset button for work and I am excited to see where this fresh start will take me. I know how amazing I feel after a juice cleanse so I can only imagine how invigorating this will be. For starters, my inspiration for healthy living, allergy-free nutrition and blogging has returned, after a 2 month hiatus. What's next?  #imaginethepossibilities

 

Ingredients:

From the Market:

  • 1 c. Watermelon, seedless and cubed
  • 4 Kale Stems, stems removed
  • 1/3 Large Cucumber, sliced
  • 6 Mint Leaves, stems removed

From the Fridge or Pantry:

  • 1/2 c. Coconut Water

Kitchen Gadgets:

  • Blender

Every Saturday morning between May and October, a farmer's market sets up down the block. It really makes juicing easy! Aside from the coconut water, I was able to find all of these fresh, hydrating veggies. Watermelon, cucumber and coconut water are super hydrating due to the high water count of the fruits and veggies. Mint enables fresh digestion and makes this juice taste fantastic. Kale is a staple for every juice, providing vitamins, nutrients and a full daily serving of vegetables.

This juice is as fresh and hydrating as it is delicious! Here is a quick run down on the juicing instructions. The best part is, you don't even need a juicer!

Juicing Instructions:

  • Rule number 1 - always wash your fruits and veggies.
  • Remove the stems from the kale and mint stalks, measure and put the leaves in the blender.
  • Slice and remove the rinds from the watermelon so you just have the flesh. It is ideal to buy a seedless watermelon, but if you can't find one, do your best to remove the black seeds. Cut the watermelon into chunks. Toss in 1 cup.
  • Slice the cucumber and keep the skin on. As long as the skin is edible, I keep the skin on my fruits and veggies to get all of the nutrients I can. Toss in about 1/3 of the cuc.
  • Add the coconut water and measure to taste, depending on how thick or thin you want your juice. 1/2 c. was perfect for me!

Hit blend and enjoy! This will stay fresh for up to 3 days in the fridge if you make your juices ahead. I particularly like this one on a hot day, before or after the gym, or when I had a bit too much to drink the night before. It is so delicious it can also be enjoyed for dessert!
