Grapefruit. So healthy, so beautiful and so delicious. Many people think of grapefruit as being too bitter or sour to be enjoyable. I used to be one of those people and insisted on pouring refined white sugar all over a halved grapefruit. My previous sugar addiction makes me cringe more than sour grapefruit. There was also a period of time where I enjoyed grapefruit juice, from the bottle, without realizing how much added sugar there was. There is no need for the refined sugar when you can pair grapefruit with other naturally sweet citrus fruits. Grapefruit has so many health benefits that the entire month of February has been named National Grapefruit Month.
You know that I like my detox juices and smoothies as a replacement for breakfast, lunch or even for a several day cleanse. I have a bunch of tasty and easy DIY detox recipes to meet different needs, such as healthy liver, improved skin, overall health and immunity. This particular citrus detox juice has become a part of my daily routine, in order to rid my body of gross toxins. Did you know that toxins affect your liver which then affects the appearance of your skin? This can lead to dry skin, cellulite and aging skin. No, thank you. Now you know that I watch my sugar intake so although this detox juice has more sugar than my usual kale concoction, it is still manageable as long as you do not consume super sugary drinks throughout the rest of the day. Here is the rundown on my favorite citrus ingredients. A whole grapefruit has 16 grams of sugar, two oranges have 18 grams of sugar and a lemon has 1 gram of sugar. That puts this detox juice at just under 35 grams of sugar so drink responsibly. #rubyred

Fresh From the Market:
- 1 Grapefruit
- 2 Oranges
- 1 Lemon
- This could not be any easier. Well, actually, if my apartment was big enough to allow for a juicer, then it could be a little easier. But for those of us without such fancy things, you basically just need to squeeze each fruit.
- Roll each fruit around on the counter to help the juicing process. Halve the grapefruit, two oranges and lemon. Stop, close your eyes, and enjoy that amazingly fresh and delicious citrus smell. Mmmm, my favorite.
- If you have a citrus press, automatic juice squeezer or juicer then work your magic. If not, you can easily squeeze each half. But really get up in there. At first, I was daintily squeezing, only to realize I was missing about half the juice! Earn that juice by working hard!
- Once you're done, that's it. Just drink and get ready to make a positive difference for your body and skin. Sometimes I add a little fresh ginger, if I have time, but I am usually in a rush and stick to the citrus fruit.
